How to Draw a Compost Pile
Draw a compost pile in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the bin front.
Step 1: The bin front
Below the middle draw a wide box for the bin's front, wider than it is tall, on the ground.
Step 2: Posts and planks
Draw a tall thin post at each end, poking up above the box, and 2 lines across it for planks.
Step 3: The heap
Draw a big soft hill over the bin, from the top's left end up and over to the right end.
Step 4: Apple core
On the left slope draw an apple core like a little hourglass: flat top, pinched waist, flat bottom, short stem.
Step 5: Banana peel
On the right slope draw a banana peel: a stubby stem with 2 pointed flaps hanging down and out.
Step 6: A leaf
Between the core and the peel draw a pointed leaf leaning up to the right, with a middle line.
Step 7: Eggshell
Under the leaf draw half an eggshell: a round bowl, wider than tall, with 3 small zigzags on top.
Step 8: Garden fork
In the heap's top, draw a garden fork: 4 prongs, a black bar, a handle and a D grip.
Step 9: Steam
Above the heap draw 3 wiggly steam lines, each from the heap wobbling up, stopping in the air.
Step 10: Two worms
Outside each post, on the ground, draw a little worm lying flat with its head up and a dot eye.
Step 11: Ground
From the bottom of each post draw a ground line out under the worm, nearly to the paper's edge.
Step 12: Cream core, yellow peel
Colour the apple core cream and the banana peel yellow, and leave the eggshell white.
Step 13: Pink worms, green leaf
Colour the worms pink and the leaf green.
Step 14: Brown heap, wood bin
Go over your lines, then colour the heap brown around the scraps, and the bin and fork handle wood brown.
