How to Draw a Coat
Draw a coat in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: collar and lapels.
Step 1: Collar and lapels
Draw a small rainbow near the top. Hang a pointed lapel from each end, meeting in a V.
Tip Each lapel goes out to a point, in to the V, and straight back up.
Step 2: Shoulders and sleeves
From each end of the rainbow slope over the shoulder, down a long sleeve, and up to the armpit.
Step 3: The long body
From each armpit draw a long side almost to the bottom. Join them with a flat hem.
Tip The coat hangs far below the sleeves.
Step 4: The front edge
From the bottom of the V draw a straight line down to the hem.
Step 5: Three buttons
Beside the front line, under the V, draw 3 big round buttons, one below the other.
Step 6: Pocket flaps
Low down on each side draw a pocket flap, a flat box with round bottom corners.
Step 7: Cuff bands
On each sleeve, a finger above the end, draw a line across from the outside edge to the inside.
Step 8: The hanger hook
From the top of the collar draw a short line up. End it with a hook.
Step 9: The rail
Draw a rail at hook height, from the left edge across to the right, skipping inside the hook.
Step 10: Tan buttons, brown coat
Colour the buttons tan, then the coat brown, going around the buttons, lapels and cuffs.
Step 11: Navy lapels and cuffs
Colour the lapels and cuffs navy blue, then go over your lines.

Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a coat, drawn by you.
