How to Draw a Chrysalis
Draw a chrysalis in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a twig.
Step 1: A twig
Across the top of your paper draw a long thin twig with round ends, a little thinner at each end.
Tip A chrysalis hangs from a twig, so the twig comes first.
Step 2: The chrysalis
From the twig's middle draw a tiny stalk, then a hanging teardrop: round shoulders down to a soft point.
Step 3: Two big eyes
A little above the middle, draw 2 big eggy eyes, one eye apart. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile from eye to eye. Add a round cheek beside each end.
Step 5: A gold band
Just under the shoulders draw 2 smile lines across the chrysalis, close together, from one edge to the other.
Step 6: Gold dots
On the lower half of the chrysalis draw 5 small dots: 3 in a row, then 2 underneath.
Step 7: Tip rings
Near the pointy bottom draw 2 short smile lines across the tip, from edge to edge.
Step 8: Gold band and dots
Colour the band and the 5 dots yellow.
Step 9: Pink cheeks, green body
Colour the cheeks pink, then the chrysalis and stalk green around the band, dots and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 10: Brown twig
Colour the twig brown. Go over your lines and your chrysalis is done!
