How to Draw a Chow Chow
Draw a chow chow in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big fluffy head.
Step 1: Big fluffy head
Near the top, draw a big fluffy head: a ring of round fur bumps, wider than tall.
Tip A chow's head is one huge puff of fur. Make every bump round and soft.
Step 2: Small round ears
On the top corners, draw 2 small ears with round tips, poking up from behind the fluff.
Tip Keep them small and far apart: chow ears almost hide in the fur.
Step 3: Two round eyes
Above the middle, draw 2 round eyes, wide apart, with a black dot and a white shine in each.
Step 4: Wide snout
Below the eyes, draw a wide oval snout. Put a big black nose on its top edge.
Step 5: Smile and tongue
Start at the nose, draw a line down, then a smile each way. Stop inside the snout. Add a tongue.
Tip The round tongue hangs from the middle of the smile.
Step 6: Round body
From under each cheek, draw a big C out and down. Join them with a saggy line underneath.
Step 7: Thick front legs
From under the fluffy head, draw a thick leg down to a round paw and back up. One each side.
Tip Add 2 short toe lines on each paw.
Step 8: Back paws
At each bottom corner of the body, draw a round hill for a back paw, with 2 short toe lines.
Step 9: Curly fluffy tail
From behind the right hip, draw a fat tail of fur bumps, curling up and in over the back.
Tip It starts behind the body, so no line closes it off.
Step 10: The ground
Rule a ground line from far left to far right, under all 4 paws.
Step 11: Tan snout and tail
Colour the snout and the fluffy tail tan. Leave the tongue white for now.
Step 12: Ginger fur
Colour the head, ears, body, legs and paws ginger, around the tan. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Blue-black tongue
Colour the tongue dark blue. A chow chow is famous for its blue-black tongue!
