How to Draw a Cello
Draw a cello in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top bump.
Step 1: The top bump
Start below the middle, on the left. Draw a bump like an egg top; stop on a tiny corner opposite.
Tip Leave lots of room above for the neck, and more below.
Step 2: Two C scoops
Start on the left corner. Draw a C scooping in; stop on a lower corner. Do the right too.
Tip The 4 little corners make it a cello, not a guitar.
Step 3: The big bottom bump
Start on the right lower corner. Swing down round a big U, and back up to the left lower corner.
Tip This bump is wider and taller than the top one.
Step 4: The long neck
From the top bump draw 2 long lines straight up, close together. Join the tops with a short flat line.
Step 5: Peg box and snail
Draw a small box on the neck top. Start on it and draw a big snail swirl into a dot.
Step 6: Four tuning pegs
Start on the peg box side. Draw a short line out; stop at a dot. Make 2 pegs each side.
Step 7: Two f-holes
Below the waist draw 2 curly f shapes: a leaning S, a small dot at each end, a dash across.
Step 8: The bridge
Between the f-holes draw the bridge standing up: a little hill with an arch cut out of the bottom.
Step 9: Tailpiece and endpin
Below the bridge draw a small tailpiece. From its end draw a pin down to a button and the floor.
Step 10: The strings
Draw 4 long thin strings from the top of the neck, over the bridge, down to the tailpiece.
Step 11: The bow
Stand a bow on the floor beside the cello. Run a hair line from its block up to the tip.
Tip The bow is a little shorter than the cello.
Step 12: Warm brown
Colour the bridge and bow stick tan. Colour the body and scroll brown, around the neck, bridge and tailpiece.
Step 13: Dark fittings
Colour the neck and peg box slate grey. Colour the tailpiece, button and bow block black.

Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a cello, drawn by you.
