How to Draw a Catapult
Draw a catapult in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two fat wheels.
Step 1: Two fat wheels
Low on your paper draw 2 big wheels, far apart. Add a small hub in the middle of each.
Tip Make both wheels the same size and the same height.
Step 2: The wooden beam
Across the tops of the wheels draw a long flat beam, poking out at both ends. Skip the wheels.
Tip The beam sits behind the wheels, so its lines stop at each wheel.
Step 3: The stand
On the middle of the beam draw a tall upside-down V with thick legs, like a letter A.
Tip Both legs lean the same amount, so the point is right in the middle.
Step 4: The throwing arm
Draw a long pole from the beam's right end up to the top left, passing behind the stand's point.
Tip Draw 2 lines side by side, a little closer together at the top.
Step 5: The pin
On the stand's point, where the arm crosses behind it, draw a small circle. The arm swings on this pin.
Step 6: The bowl
Over the top end of the arm draw a bowl: a flat line across, then a deep U under it.
Step 7: The rock
Draw a round rock sitting in the bowl. Only the top of it shows above the rim.
Tip Start on the rim, curve up and over like a hill, and stop on the rim.
Step 8: The ground
Draw one straight line touching the bottom of both wheels, a little longer than the catapult.
Step 9: Grey rock
Colour the rock, the 2 hubs and the pin grey.
Step 10: Light wood arm
Colour the arm and the bowl light brown.
Step 11: Wooden frame
Colour the stand and the long beam wood brown, going around the pin.
Step 12: Dark wheels
Colour both wheels dark brown, going around the grey hubs. Your catapult is ready!
