How to Draw a Cat Sleeping
Draw a cat sleeping in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big head.
Step 1: Big head
On the left, draw a big egg head on its side, with 2 soft fur bumps on each cheek.
Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the curled-up body.
Step 2: Pointy ears
On each top corner of the head, draw a pointy ear with a small triangle inside.
Tip Each ear starts and stops on the head line. Ears lean out a little.
Step 3: Sleepy eyes
Across the middle of the head, draw 2 closed eyes, each a little U like a tiny smile.
Step 4: Nose and smile
Below the eyes, draw a small upside-down triangle nose. From its point, draw a W smile.
Tip Both smile curves start at the nose point.
Step 5: Front paws
Under the chin, draw 2 round paws side by side, each with a flat bottom and 2 toe lines.
Tip Start and stop each paw on the chin, so the head rests on its paws.
Step 6: Loaf body
Start on the right cheek. Draw a big loaf hill to the right, down, and flat back to the paw.
Tip The body is longer than the head is wide, like a loaf of bread.
Step 7: Curled tail
Start low on the back end. Draw a tail curling up to a round tip. Stop on the bottom line.
Tip The tail runs along the bottom of the body, thick at the back and thin at the tip.
Step 8: Whiskers
Start on each cheek, just above the fur bumps. Draw 2 whiskers going out, away from the face.
Tip Whiskers grow out from the face line. Never draw them across the face.
Step 9: Forehead stripes
Between the ears, draw 3 short stripes down the forehead. Start a little below the head line.
Step 10: Zzz and ground
Right of the ears, draw 3 Zs climbing up, each a bit bigger. Rule a ground line under the cat.
Tip Keep the Zs away from the ears and the body.
Step 11: Cream and pink
Colour the 2 paws cream. Colour the nose and the inside of each ear pink.
Step 12: Ginger fur
Colour the head, ears, body and tail ginger, around the cream paws and the pink nose and ears.
