How to Draw a Carnation
Draw a carnation in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cup.
Step 1: The cup
Above the middle, draw a slim cup like a short tube, narrow at the bottom, with a sagging rim.
Step 2: The back ruffle
From the left rim corner draw a big round fan with a frilly top, stopping at the right corner.
Step 3: The middle ruffle
Start on the rim in from the left. Draw a smaller frilly fan in front, stopping near the right.
Step 4: The front ruffle
Start on the rim nearer the middle. Draw the smallest frilly fan and stop on the other side.
Step 5: Two sepals
At the bottom of the cup draw 2 small pointy leaves, one peeking out on each side.
Step 6: The stem
Start under the cup. Draw 2 long bowed lines down to the bottom, a little wider apart there.
Step 7: Two leaves
A hand below the cup draw a narrow leaf pointing left from the stem. Draw another lower, pointing right.
Step 8: Leaf veins
Start on the stem in the middle of each leaf. Draw one curved vein line, stopping short of the tip.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Start near the left edge. Draw a soft ground line under the stem, stopping near the right edge. Add grass.
Step 10: Pink petals
Colour all 3 ruffles pink, right into every frilly bump.
Step 11: Green cup and stem
Colour the cup, the sepals, the stem and both leaves leaf green. Your carnation is done!
