How to Draw a Candle
Draw a candle in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the flame.
Step 1: The flame
Near the top draw a big teardrop flame, point up. Add a tiny wick under it.
Tip Make the flame big and fat.
Step 2: The candle
Under the wick draw a wide flat oval. From each end draw a long line down, stopping above the bottom.
Step 3: Big eyes
Halfway down the candle draw 2 big round eyes, a gap apart. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw an upside-down rainbow mouth, closed flat from end to end. Add a cheek under each eye.
Step 5: The cup
Draw an oval round the candle's bottom. From its ends draw lines down to a U. Add a ground line.
Tip The candle sits IN the cup: the oval crosses the candle's sides.
Step 6: Melty wax drips
Start on the left wall under the oval. Draw one bumpy line of 5 drips, ending on the right wall.
Step 7: Loop handle
Draw a big D handle on the right wall, from top down to bottom. Add a smaller D inside it.
Tip Both ends of each D run into the wall.
Step 8: The flame's heart
Inside the flame draw a smaller teardrop leaning the same way, sitting low, for the hot heart of the flame.
Step 9: Warm glow
Round the top of the flame draw 5 short rays pointing away, with a gap from the flame.
Step 10: Colour the flame
Colour the flame yellow and its heart orange.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, cream candle
Colour the cheeks and mouth pink. Colour the candle cream around them, leaving the drips, top and eyes white.
Step 12: Blue cup
Colour the cup and handle blue, and the inside of the cup sky blue. Leave the handle's hole white.
