How to Draw a Butterfly on a Flower
Draw a butterfly on a flower in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the flower's middle.
Step 1: The flower's middle
Above the middle of the page draw a big round circle. Inside draw 2 big eyes and a U smile.
Step 2: Four petals
Start on the circle, bulge out a fat petal, back to the circle. Do 4: top, bottom, left, right.
Step 3: Four more petals
In each gap start on the circle, bulge out a petal the same size, and stop back on the circle.
Tip Now there are 8 petals all round.
Step 4: Stem, leaves and grass
Draw 2 stem lines from the bottom petal down to a ground line. Add 2 leaves and 2 grass tufts.
Tip Let the stem bend a little and get wider near the ground.
Step 5: Butterfly head
Above the tip of the top-right petal draw a small round head. Add 2 round eyes and a tiny smile.
Step 6: Body and stripes
Under the head draw a small egg body resting on the petal tip. Add 2 short curved stripes across it.
Step 7: Top wings
Start each side of the body under the head. Draw a big wing out and up, back to the body.
Step 8: Bottom wings
Start halfway along the bottom of each top wing. Swoop down and out, back up to the body tip.
Step 9: Antennae and spots
From the top of the head draw 2 thin antennae ending in tiny balls. Add a spot in each wing.
Step 10: Pink petals and cheeks
Colour all 8 petals pink. Add a little pink cheek under each eye, beside the smile.
Step 11: Yellow middle and spots
Colour the flower's middle yellow around the cheeks, and the wing spots yellow. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Green stem, purple body
Colour the stem and leaves green, and the butterfly's head, body and antenna tips purple. Leave its eyes white.
Step 13: Blue wings
Colour the 4 wings blue around the spots. Go over your lines and your butterfly is done!
