How to Draw a Butter Tart
Draw a butter tart in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.
Step 1: A plate
Below the middle, draw a long flat oval plate, nearly as wide as the page. Add a rim oval inside.
Step 2: The first tart
On the left of the plate, draw a big flat oval with a frilly edge of little bumps all round.
Tip Make it nearly half as wide as the plate. It is the top of a pastry cup.
Step 3: Its pastry cup
Start at the frilly oval's left end. Go down and in, along a rounded bottom, up to the right end.
Step 4: The filling
Inside the frilly oval, draw a smaller plain oval for the gooey filling.
Step 5: Flutes
Down the side of the tart, draw 4 short lines from the frilly edge, spread out.
Step 6: A second tart
Behind on the right, draw a smaller frilly oval. Add its cup from the left end to the right end.
Tip Tuck its left side behind the first tart.
Step 7: Filling and flutes
Inside its frilly oval, draw a plain filling oval. Add 3 short flute lines down its side.
Step 8: A drip
Start on the first tart's frilly edge. Draw a fat round U down the side, back to the edge.
Step 9: A fork
Right of the tarts, draw a fork lying on the plate: a long handle, a small head and 4 prongs.
Step 10: The table
Draw a long line under the plate, just touching its bottom.
Step 11: Sky plate
Go over your lines, then colour the plate sky blue, around the tarts and the fork.
Step 12: Tan pastry, grey fork
Colour both pastry cups and their frilly edges tan, around the fillings. Colour the fork grey.
Step 13: Ginger filling
Colour the fillings and the drip ginger brown.
