How to Draw a Bug Hotel
Draw a bug hotel in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the box.
Step 1: The box
Draw a tall house shape: 2 straight walls, a flat bottom and a pointed top.
Tip Keep it a little left of the middle. A bee will fly in on the right.
Step 2: The roof
Lay a thick bent roof on the point. Let both ends poke out past the walls.
Step 3: Shelves
Draw 2 lines across the box for shelves. Add 1 short line down between them.
Step 4: Twigs
Under the roof draw 2 lines across, from one side of the point to the other. These are twigs.
Step 5: Pine cones
In the left room draw 2 eggs with pointed tops. Zigzag 2 lines across each.
Step 6: Small tubes
In the right room draw 4 circles, 2 on 2. Draw a smaller circle inside each for the hole.
Tip These are hollow stems. Little bees sleep inside.
Step 7: Big tubes
On the floor draw 3 big circles in a row. Draw a smaller circle inside each.
Step 8: A ladybird
On the left of the roof draw a dome. Add a round head at its top end, and 3 dots.
Step 9: A bee
Up on the right draw an oval bee. Add 3 curved stripes, 2 wings on top and a dot eye.
Step 10: Ground
Start on the left. Draw a long ground line under the box and stop on the right.
Step 11: Wood and yellow
Colour the box light brown, around the pine cones and holes. Colour the bee's face and middle yellow.
Step 12: Green and red
Colour the roof green. Colour the ladybird's dome red, around the 3 dots.
Step 13: Brown
Colour the 2 pine cones brown. Colour the 7 holes brown too.
Step 14: Black
Colour the ladybird's head black. Colour the bee's 2 dark stripes black.
