How to Draw a Broken Window
Draw a broken window in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the window frame.
Step 1: The window frame
Draw a big square for the window frame, filling most of your paper, and a second square just inside it.
Step 2: The cross bars
Draw a thin bar down the middle of the window and a thin bar across the middle, making 4 panes.
Step 3: The sill
Under the window draw a long flat box for the sill, poking out a little on both sides.
Step 4: The jagged hole
In the middle of the top right pane draw a spiky star with 8 uneven points. This is the hole.
Tip Make some points long and some short, so it looks smashed.
Step 5: Four cracks
From 4 points of the star draw straight cracks out to the 4 edges of the pane.
Tip Glass cracks are straight lines, never curvy.
Step 6: Four more cracks
From the other 4 points draw straight cracks out towards the corners, stopping at the edge of the pane.
Step 7: A zigzag crack
In the bottom left pane draw a zigzag crack from top to bottom, with a branch to the left edge.
Tip Make every zig a different length.
Step 8: Sky blue glass
Colour the 4 panes sky blue, around the hole.
Tip Leave the hole white for now. It gets its own colour last.
Step 9: Wooden frame
Colour the frame, the cross bars and the sill brown, around the blue glass.
Step 10: The dark hole
Colour the hole dark grey, so it looks like you can see inside. Your broken window is done!
