How to Draw a Birthday Candle
Draw a birthday candle in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the candle.
Step 1: The candle
In the middle draw a fat candle standing up, as tall as your hand and 2 fingers wide.
Tip Flat on top, with a bottom that bows down like a shallow smile.
Step 2: The cake
Draw an oval round the candle's base. From each end draw a side down, and join them with a smile.
Tip The candle stands in the oval's middle; its back edge hides behind the candle.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the candle, below the middle, draw 2 big egg eyes, with a black dot and shine in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile from eye to eye, and a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: The flame
Above the candle draw a teardrop flame. Start a short wick under the flame and stop on the candle top.
Step 6: Candy stripes
On the candle draw 4 slanted candy-cane bands, 2 above the face and 2 below. Keep the face clear.
Tip Each band is 2 short slanted lines from the left edge to the right.
Step 7: Inner flame and glow
Inside the flame draw a smaller teardrop. Around the flame draw 4 little sparkles for the glow.
Step 8: Icing and ground
Under the cake top draw a drippy icing line, starting and stopping on the sides. Add a ground line below.
Step 9: Yellow flame
Go over your lines, then colour the flame yellow with an orange middle.
Step 10: Peach cake
Colour the side of the cake peach, below the drippy icing line.
Step 11: Pink icing and stripes
Colour the icing, the 4 stripes and the cheeks pink. Leave the candle and eyes white. Ready for a wish!
