How to Draw a Bird Nest
Draw a bird nest in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the nest bowl.
Step 1: The nest bowl
Below the middle draw a wide bumpy bowl. Join its top corners with a bumpy smile for the front rim.
Tip The nest is as wide as a hand and half as tall.
Step 2: The back rim
Start at the left end of the rim. Draw a bumpy rainbow over the bowl to the right end.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the front of the nest draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot in each with a shine.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile. Add a small flat cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Three eggs
Draw 3 eggs peeking over the rim, pointy ends up: a tall middle one and a lower one each side.
Step 6: Speckles
Put 2 or 3 little solid dots on each egg for speckles.
Step 7: Woven rim
From just below one rim end, draw a bumpy smile under the front rim across to the other side.
Step 8: Twig ends
Poke a short twig out of each top corner of the nest, pointing up and out.
Step 9: The branch
Under the nest draw a thick branch across, stopping before the edges. Add a twig growing up on the right.
Tip The branch is a bit thicker than your finger.
Step 10: Three leaves
Draw 3 pointed leaves with a middle line: one pointing up, one on the twig, one hanging down.
Step 11: Sky eggs, pink cheeks
Go over your lines. Colour the eggs sky blue around the speckles, and the cheeks pink.
Step 12: Branch and leaves
Colour the branch and its twig wood brown, and the 3 leaves green.
Step 13: Brown nest
Colour the nest and twigs brown around the eggs and cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Your nest is done!
