How to Draw a Bearded Dragon

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a bearded dragon in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

On the left, draw a wide triangle head: a round nose at the front and a big round back.

Tip A bearded dragon head is short and wide, not long and pointy.

  2. Step 2: The big eye

In the middle of the head, draw one big circle eye with a big black dot and a white shine.

  3. Step 3: Smile and nostril

Start at the nose. Draw a smile back under the eye, turning up at the end. Dot a nostril.

  4. Step 4: Spiky beard

Under the jaw, draw a band of 5 soft spikes pointing down, from the chin back to the throat.

Tip The spiky beard is what makes it a bearded dragon.

  5. Step 5: Long flat body

From the back of the head, draw a long low body with a round bottom, ending under the beard.

Tip Keep the back low and flat, like a pancake.

  6. Step 6: Two near legs

Under the chest and under the bottom, draw a short bent leg ending in a foot with 3 round toes.

  7. Step 7: Long tail

Start on the bottom. Draw a long tail curving down to the toes, along to a thin point, and back.

Tip The tail is fat where it starts and thin at the tip.

  8. Step 8: Two far legs

Just behind each leg, draw the far leg peeking out as a thin strip, down to the toes.

  9. Step 9: Little spikes

Add 3 little spikes on the back of the head, and 5 little spikes along the back.

  10. Step 10: Back spots

Draw 3 round spots in a row along the back, inside the body lines.

  11. Step 11: The branch

From a cut end on the left, draw a thick branch under the feet, round the tip and back.

  12. Step 12: Tan head

Go over your lines. Colour the head, the beard and the head spikes tan. Leave the eye white.

  13. Step 13: Tan body

Colour the body, legs, tail and back spikes tan too, around the spots.

  14. Step 14: Spots and branch

Colour the spots orange. Then colour the branch brown, around the feet and tail.
