How to Draw a Lyrebird
Draw a lyrebird in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top left draw a big round head, a little wider than tall, with a tiny chin bump.
Tip Leave room on the right and below for the body and tail.
Step 2: Short beak
Start on the front of the head. Draw a short fat triangle beak out left, stop back on the head.
Tip Add a mouth line from the point back to the head.
Step 3: One big eye
A finger behind the beak draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white speck.
Step 4: Plump body
Start behind the head and curve down to the rump. Swing round a fat belly, stop under the head.
Tip The body is a plump egg hanging under the head, narrower than the head.
Step 5: Lyre tail
From the rump draw 2 tall curvy feathers, a big U. Add 4 soft lines inside, stopping below the tips.
Tip The tail looks like a lyre, a small harp, so this bird is called a lyrebird.
Step 6: Folded wing
Start under the back of the head. Draw a round shoulder, sweep back along the side, stop above the tail.
Step 7: Front leg and toes
From the tummy draw a thin leg, 3 toes along the ground, a tiny back toe, back to the tummy.
Step 8: Back leg and toes
Start on the tummy a hand further back. Draw the other leg the same way, stop on the tummy.
Tip Leave a gap between the 2 feet.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Start at the left edge. Draw one long line under the toes, stop at the right edge. Add grass tufts.
Step 10: Tan body, grey legs
Colour the body and beak tan, but not the wing. Colour the legs and toes grey.
Step 11: Ginger tail, wood wing
Colour the 2 big tail feathers ginger and the wing wood brown.
Step 12: Brown head
Colour the head brown, leaving the eye white. Your lyrebird is done!
