How to Draw a Battenberg

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a Battenberg in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.

Print

  1. Step 1: A plate

Below the middle draw a long flat oval plate, most of the way across. Add a second oval just inside.

  2. Step 2: The long bar

On the left of the plate draw a square front, then a slanted top and a long side going back.

Tip Battenberg is a long pink and yellow checkerboard cake wrapped in marzipan.

  3. Step 3: The marzipan edge

Inside the front square draw a second square, a finger in from each edge. This is the marzipan.

  4. Step 4: The checkerboard

Split the inner square into 4 with a thin line down the middle and a thin line across.

  5. Step 5: A slice

On the right draw a slice the same way: a square front with a thin top and a thin side.

  6. Step 6: The slice's checks

Inside the slice's square draw a smaller square. Split it into 4 with a thin line down and across.

  7. Step 7: The table

Draw a line under the plate from well left to well right.

  8. Step 8: Cream marzipan

Go over your lines, then colour the marzipan edges, the tops and the sides cream.

  9. Step 9: Pink and yellow checks

Colour the top left and bottom right checks pink, and the other 2 checks yellow.

  10. Step 10: Sky plate

Colour the plate sky blue, around the cake and the slice.
