How to Draw a Ball of Yarn
Draw a ball of yarn in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the ball.
Step 1: The ball
In the middle of your paper draw one big round circle, with a finger of room under it.
Tip One slow smooth sweep: a ball of yarn is round and soft.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Below the middle of the ball draw 2 big round eyes, a finger apart, with a black dot in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw one wide U smile from eye to eye. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 4: Slanting strands
Starting on the left side, draw 3 gentle slanting curves up to the top right, keeping clear of the eyes.
Step 5: Criss-cross strands
From the right side, draw 3 steeper curves up to the top, crossing the first ones.
Step 6: Ground and shadow
Draw a ground line from each paper edge in to the ball. Add a long flat oval shadow under it.
Step 7: Loose end
Start on the lower right of the ball. Draw a loose strand down to the ground, ending in a curl.
Step 8: Sparkles
Draw 2 sparkle stars, one up on the right and one on the left.
Step 9: Pink cheeks
Colour the cheeks pink.
Step 10: Grey shadow, yellow stars
Colour the shadow grey and the sparkles yellow.
Step 11: Red yarn
Go over your lines. Colour the ball red around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Ready for knitting!
