How to Draw a Peacock Spider

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a peacock spider in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Below the middle of your paper draw a big round head, a bit wider than tall, like a bun.

Tip Make it big: the face is the star of this spider.

  2. Step 2: The big fan

Start on the head's left side. Draw a wide rainbow fan up and over, down to the right side.

Tip Make it wider than the head: the spider lifts this flap to show off, like a peacock.

  3. Step 3: Two huge eyes

Draw 2 huge round eyes with black dots in the middle of the head, almost touching. Add tiny side eyes.

  4. Step 4: Smile and fangs

Start under the left eye. Draw a U smile across to the right eye. Hang 2 fangs from the middle.

Tip The fangs hang down from the smile like 2 icicles.

  5. Step 5: Top legs

Start on each side of the head. Draw a leg up to a round knee, then down to a point.

Tip Every leg is an upside-down V: fat at the head, thin at the tip.

  6. Step 6: Waving legs

Start on each side below the top leg. Draw a long leg out, then way up beside the fan.

Tip The spider waves this pair high in the air while it dances.

  7. Step 7: Third legs

Start on each side, level with the eyes. Draw a leg out to a knee, then down to a point.

  8. Step 8: Bottom legs

From each cheek draw a bent leg down to a point. Add a ground line under the feet.

Tip The 4 legs on each side fan out: up, way up, out, down.

  9. Step 9: Fan pattern

Inside the fan draw a smaller rainbow from top leg to top leg. Add 5 dots in the outer band.

  10. Step 10: Yellow dots, pink cheeks

Go over your lines. Colour the 5 dots on the fan yellow. Add 2 pink cheeks beside the smile.

  11. Step 11: Red band, blue fan

Colour the inner band red, then colour the fan blue around it and the yellow dots.

  12. Step 12: Brown head

Colour the head brown around the pink cheeks, leaving the eyes and fangs white.

  13. Step 13: Brown legs

Colour all 8 legs brown too, right down to the tips. Your peacock spider is done!
