How to Draw an Apartment Block

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw an apartment block in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the tall block.

Print

  1. Step 1: The tall block

In the middle of your paper draw a tall box, taller than it is wide, for the block of flats.

Tip Leave room above it for the roof.

  2. Step 2: The flat roof

Across the top draw a long thin roof slab that pokes out a little past both sides.

  3. Step 3: The front door

At the bottom, in the middle, draw a wide door with a line down it. Add a flat shelter above.

  4. Step 4: Three balconies

Draw 3 long balcony boxes on the wall: top left, middle right, then lower left.

Tip Leave a window's height of wall above each one.

  5. Step 5: Balcony bars

Draw 2 bars in each balcony, from its top edge straight down to its bottom edge.

Tip On the right balcony keep the bars near the ends.

  6. Step 6: Plants and a T-shirt

Draw a bumpy plant peeking over each left balcony. Hang a little T-shirt on the right one, between the bars.

  7. Step 7: Balcony windows

Behind each balcony draw a square window peeking over it. Its lines stop at the box and the plant.

  8. Step 8: Rows of windows

Fill the 3 rows with square windows, 3 in each row. Add 1 window each side of the door.

Tip Line the windows up in neat columns.

  9. Step 9: The ground

Start left of the block. Draw a long ground line under it, stopping past the right side.

  10. Step 10: Sky blue windows

Colour every window sky blue. Stop at the balcony boxes and the plants.

  11. Step 11: Peach walls

Colour the walls peach, going round the windows, the door and its shelter, the balconies and plants.

  12. Step 12: Grey and green

Colour the roof slab and the 3 balcony boxes grey. Colour the 2 plants green.

  13. Step 13: Red door and T-shirt

Colour the door, its shelter and the T-shirt red. Go over your lines and your block of flats is done!
