How to Draw an Alligator
Draw an alligator in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
On the left draw a long flat snout with a round nose, rising to a tall dome at the back.
Step 2: The lower jaw
Start under the back of the head. Draw a thin jaw forward, stopping on the mouth line behind the nose.
Step 3: Pointy teeth
Start at the mouth corner. Draw 6 little triangles hanging from the mouth line and stop behind the nose.
Step 4: Periscope eyes
On top of the dome draw a big circle poking up, and a smaller one behind. Add black dots.
Tip Rub out the head line inside each eye.
Step 5: Back and tail
Start behind the second eye. Draw a long round back, then a tail that curls up to a point.
Step 6: The tummy
Start at the chin. Draw one long low tummy line back, then up under the tail to meet the point.
Step 7: Front leg
Under the chest, draw a short fat leg: a round top, then a flat foot with 3 toe bumps.
Tip The round top sits on the body. The leg gets thinner above the foot.
Step 8: Back leg
Under the hips, draw a bigger leg the same way. Leave a gap between the 2 legs.
Step 9: The ground
Draw one long straight line under the feet, from the left side to the right. The tail stays up.
Step 10: The far legs
In front of each leg, draw a far leg peeking out. Give it a small 2-toe foot on the ground.
Step 11: Back bumps
Along the back and tail, draw 8 pointy hills, getting smaller. Each one starts and ends on the back line.
Step 12: Cream jaw, light bumps
Colour the lower jaw cream, around the teeth. Colour the 8 back bumps light green.
Step 13: Dark green
Colour the head, body, tail and all 4 legs dark green. Leave the eyes and teeth white.
