How to Draw an Albatross
Draw an albatross in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top middle of your paper draw a big round head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave room on the left for the long beak.
Step 2: Long hooked beak
From the head draw a long thick hooked beak. Add a mouth line and a line across the hook.
Step 3: One big eye
A finger behind the beak draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white speck.
Step 4: Plump body
Start low on the back of the head. Draw the back down, round a fat belly, stop under the beak.
Tip The body is a plump egg, narrower than the head.
Step 5: Fan tail
From the rump draw a fan tail pointing down and back, wide at the end. Add 2 feather lines.
Step 6: Long narrow wing
Under the head draw a long narrow wing along the back, pointing past the tail. Add 2 feather lines.
Step 7: Front webbed foot
Under the front of the tummy draw a short leg getting thinner, then a webbed foot with 3 toes.
Step 8: Back webbed foot
Further back under the tummy draw the other leg and webbed foot the same way. Keep a gap between.
Step 9: A flat rock
Under the feet draw a flat rock, a long low oval wider than the body.
Step 10: Peach beak, stone rock
Leave the bird and its eye white. Colour the beak peach, but not the hook, and the rock pale stone.
Step 11: Grey hook and feet
Colour the beak hook, the legs and the webbed feet grey.
Step 12: Dark wing and tail
Colour the long wing and the fan tail dark slate grey.
