How to Draw a Baryonyx

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a baryonyx in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long snout head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Long snout head

On the left, above the middle, draw a long low head with a narrow crocodile snout at the front.

Tip Think crocodile: the snout is longer than the rest of the head.

  2. Step 2: Big eye

Near the back of the head, draw a big eye with a black dot. Dot a nostril at the tip.

  3. Step 3: Smile and teeth

From the snout tip, draw a long smile that curls up under the eye. Hang 5 V teeth from it.

  4. Step 4: Neck and back

Start behind the head. Draw 1 long low neck-and-back line, and stop just below the middle on the right.

Tip Baryonyx held its body low and level, like a huge heron wading for fish.

  5. Step 5: The tail

From the back's end, draw a long level tail out to a tip, then back underneath, stopping under the bottom.

Tip Think carrot: fat at the body, thinning to the tip.

  6. Step 6: Throat and tummy

From under the head, draw 1 line down the neck, round a fat tummy, stopping at the tail's bottom.

  7. Step 7: Drumstick leg

On the hip, draw a big round thigh and a leg down to a foot. Add 2 toe lines.

  8. Step 8: Tummy patch

Start under the jaw. Draw one long curve down inside the tummy, stopping on the front of the leg.

  9. Step 9: Far leg and ground

In front of the leg, draw a thin far leg strip with its toe peeking out. Add the ground line.

  10. Step 10: Arm and hook claw

Draw an arm from the chest down to a round hand. Add a big hook claw and a small one.

Tip 'Baryonyx' means heavy claw: it used the hook to catch fish.

  11. Step 11: Sand tummy

Colour the tummy patch sand. Leave the claws and teeth white.

  12. Step 12: Colour it brown

Go over your lines. Colour the dinosaur brown around the sand tummy. Leave the eye white.
