How to Draw a Water Deer
Draw a water deer in 12 steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top left draw a big round head, a little taller than wide. Leave room on the right.
Tip A big head makes it cute.
Step 2: Eyes, nose and fangs
Draw 2 eyes and a nose. Under the nose draw a U smile. Hang a little fang from each end.
Tip A water deer has fangs instead of antlers.
Step 3: The ears
On each top corner of the head draw a leaf ear pointing up and out, with a smaller leaf inside.
Step 4: The neck
Start behind the head and draw a neck line sloping down. From the chin draw another down to the chest.
Step 5: The body
Start at the bottom of the neck. Draw a big bean body round and back up to the chest.
Tip A bean, not a loaf.
Step 6: 2 legs
From the chest draw a front leg, thinner down to a hoof. Add a back leg from the round bottom.
Tip A hoof is a little doorstop with a split up the middle.
Step 7: The far legs
Draw 2 thinner legs peeking out from behind the first ones. Start under the tummy and stop at a hoof.
Step 8: The tail
On the top corner of the bottom draw a short stubby tail pointing out and down, like a little thumb.
Step 9: Ground and reeds
Draw a ground line. Grow 5 tall reeds from it, 2 left and 3 right, and add 2 oval tops.
Step 10: Peach ears
Go over your lines, then colour the insides of the ears peach.
Step 11: Tan deer
Colour the whole deer tan, around the peach ears and the hooves. Leave the eyes and fangs white.
Step 12: Reeds and hooves
Colour the reeds green, the cattail tops light brown and the hooves black. Your water deer is done!
