How to Draw a Treehopper

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a treehopper in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

On the left of your paper, below the middle, draw a small egg on its side for the head.

Tip A treehopper is a tiny bug with a giant thorn on its back.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and shine in each.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw an open smile: a flat line with a wide U under it. Add 2 round cheeks.

  4. Step 4: A little body

On the right of the head draw a plump egg on its side for the body, tucked behind the head.

  5. Step 5: A giant thorn

Start behind the head. Draw a wide thorn up to a sharp point. Stop at the middle of the back.

Tip Rub out the back line inside the thorn, so the thorn grows out of the body.

  6. Step 6: A folded wing

Start at the head. Draw a long oval wing across the body, ending in a point at the tail.

  7. Step 7: Belly rings

Under the wing, draw 3 short curved lines down to the bottom of the body.

  8. Step 8: The stem

Under the bug, draw 2 wavy stem lines edge to edge. Add a pointed leaf on top near the right.

  9. Step 9: Six little legs

Under the body draw 3 short bent legs going down to the stem. Each ends in a tiny ball foot.

Tip Only 3 legs show from the side. The other 3 are hidden behind.

  10. Step 10: Leaf wing, pink cheeks

Go over your lines, then colour the folded wing light green and the round cheeks pink.

  11. Step 11: Green treehopper

Colour the head, body and thorn green around the wing, cheeks and mouth. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Red mouth, dark legs

Colour the open mouth red and all the legs and feet dark grey.

  13. Step 13: Green stem

Colour the stem and the leaf green.
