How to Draw a Lungfish
Draw a lungfish in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: eye and round head.
Step 1: Eye and round head
Draw a big eye. Start above it and draw a round C nose, stopping below it. Add a smile.
Tip The head is blunt and round, like the end of a sausage.
Step 2: Long body
Start at the top of the head. Draw a long line sloping to a point, and stop. Match it underneath.
Tip A lungfish is long like an eel, and thinnest at the tail.
Step 3: Ribbon tail fin
Start halfway along the back. Draw a fin up and round the pointed tail, stopping under the tummy.
Tip The fin wraps right round the tail like a leaf.
Step 4: Fin lines
Draw 3 short lines in the fin above the tail and 3 below, each starting on the body.
Step 5: Gill
Behind the eye draw a tall C for the gill, from the back down to the tummy.
Tip Bow the gill line toward the tail.
Step 6: Front paddle fin
Start low on the gill. Draw a long thin leaf fin hanging down and back, ending on the gill.
Tip Lungfish fins are skinny paddles, a bit like little legs.
Step 7: Back paddle fin
Under the tummy, in front of the tail fin, draw a matching leaf fin. Start and stop on the tummy.
Step 8: Bubbles
Above the nose draw 3 bubbles floating up. Make each one bigger than the last.
Tip A lungfish can gulp air, so it blows bubbles.
Step 9: Sand and pebbles
Draw a long wavy sand line across the bottom. Sit 3 round pebbles on it.
Step 10: Sand and bubbles
Colour the sand below the wavy line sandy and the bubbles light blue.
Step 11: Grey pebbles, green fins
Colour the pebbles grey. Colour the tail fin and both paddle fins light green.
Step 12: Dark green lungfish
Colour the head and body dark green, going around the front fin. Leave the eye white.
Tip Go over your lines at the end, and your lungfish is done!
