How to Draw an Open Treasure Chest

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw an open treasure chest in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the box.

Print

  1. Step 1: The box

Below the middle, draw a wide low box for the chest, with sides that bow out a tiny bit.

Tip Make it wide and low, like a big drawer.

  2. Step 2: Open lid

From the top-left corner, draw a big arch over, back down to the top-right corner. Add a rim arch inside.

Tip The lid is as tall as the box is wide: a standing rainbow.

  3. Step 3: Heap of gold

From the top-left corner, draw a bumpy hill of gold over the front edge, down to the top-right corner.

Tip The heap covers the bottom of the lid, so stop the lid lines there.

  4. Step 4: Coins in the heap

Draw 5 small round coins on the heap: 1 in the middle, 2 a little higher, 1 near each end.

  5. Step 5: A gem

On top of the heap, draw a diamond gem, pointy top and bottom, with a line across the middle.

Tip The gem is the tallest thing in the pile.

  6. Step 6: Lock plate

In the middle of the front edge, draw a lock plate hanging down. Add a keyhole with a little slot.

  7. Step 7: Metal bands

Near each side of the box, draw 2 close lines from the top edge to the bottom, for metal bands.

  8. Step 8: Studs and ground

Draw a stud on each band, top and bottom. Add a short ground line out from each bottom corner.

  9. Step 9: Spilled coins

At the bottom-left corner, draw 3 coins on the ground, one on top, each with a ring inside.

  10. Step 10: Sparkles

Draw 3 four-point sparkle stars: up on the right, up on the left, and beside the lid on the right.

  11. Step 11: Yellow gold

Colour the heap, the lock, the coins and the sparkles yellow.

  12. Step 12: Blue gem, grey bands

Colour the gem blue, and the bands and studs grey.

  13. Step 13: Wooden chest, red lining

Colour the lining red and the wood brown, around the gold, bands and lock. Your chest is done!
