How to Draw a Train Driver

Draw a train driver in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Step 1: The head
Left of the middle, draw a big egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.
Tip Leave room on the right for the engine.
Step 2: The face
Draw 2 big eyes with dots, a U nose and a smile. Start and stop C ears on the head.
Tip Leave a gap between the eyes, about one eye wide.
Step 3: Peaked cap
Draw a band across the head. Add a puffy dome above and a peak below, from end to end.
Tip Rub out the top of the head inside the cap.
Step 4: Neckerchief
Under the chin draw a big V for the neckerchief. Start and stop on the head.
Step 5: The cab
Draw a tall window around the driver. Draw a bigger box around it and a flat roof on top.
Tip Leave space under the scarf for the body.
Step 6: Shirt
From each side of the scarf, draw a round shoulder and a line down to the window's bottom edge.
Step 7: Overalls
From the window edge draw a square bib on the chest, back down to the edge. Add 2 shoulder straps.
Step 8: Waving arm
From the left shoulder draw a bent sleeve out and up to a cuff. Add a mitten with a thumb.
Tip Rub out the shoulder line inside the sleeve.
Step 9: Other arm
From the other shoulder draw a sleeve bending down to a cuff. Add a round mitten holding the window edge.
Tip Rub out the lines inside the sleeve and the mitten.
Step 10: Boiler and funnel
From the cab draw a long boiler with a bump, back to the cab. Add a funnel and steam.
Step 11: Wheels and rail
Draw 3 big wheels under the engine, each with a small circle inside. Add a long rail underneath.
Tip Rub out the engine's bottom line inside each wheel.
Step 12: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour 2 pink cheeks, then the face around them, the ears and both hands peach. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Sky shirt, red scarf
Colour the shirt sky blue. Colour the neckerchief, the roof, the funnel and the wheels red.
Step 14: Blue overalls, green engine
Colour the cap and overalls blue and the engine green. Leave the steam white. Your train driver is done!
