How to Draw a Toy Soldier

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a toy soldier in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big head

Near the top of your paper draw a big head, wider than tall, with fat cheeks and a narrower chin.

Tip Make it big, almost half of the whole soldier.

  2. Step 2: Tall soldier hat

On the head draw a tall flat-topped hat. Add a band near its top and a curved front peak.

Tip Keep the sides going straight up with no wide brim, or it turns into a top hat.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Under the hat draw 2 big round eyes. Colour a big black dot in each, leaving a shine.

  4. Step 4: Ball nose

Under the eyes, in the middle, draw a round ball nose a little smaller than an eye.

  5. Step 5: Cheeks and smile

Draw a little oval on each cheek beside the nose, and a smile curve under the nose.

  6. Step 6: The coat

Start under the head at the left. Draw a coat down to a flat bottom and up to the head.

Tip The coat is narrower than the head.

  7. Step 7: Arms and hands

From under the head draw a fat arm down each side, bending in to a round hand on the tummy.

  8. Step 8: The drum

Between the hands draw an oval. Draw down from its left end, round to its right end. Add a zigzag.

  9. Step 9: Straps and button

Add 2 straps from the chin down to the drum, and a small round button between them.

  10. Step 10: Legs and boots

Start under the coat, draw 2 straight legs down to 2 boots, toes out. Add a ground line under them.

  11. Step 11: Peach face, pink cheeks

Go over your lines, then colour the face, nose and hands peach and the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Yellow band, blue drum

Colour the hat band and the button yellow. Colour the drum blue, leaving its top white.

  13. Step 13: Red coat, black hat

Colour the coat, arms and legs red, the hat and boots black, around the drum and band. Ready to march!
