How to Draw a Tow Truck

Step 1: Nose, cab and bed

Start low left. Go up over a tall cab, halfway down its back, along the bed rail. Stop low right.

Tip The cab is a tall loaf; the bed behind is half as tall.

Step 2: Floor and wheel bumps

Start at the bottom front. Go along the floor, over 2 big rainbow bumps, and up to the back wall.

Step 3: Eye, smile and bumper

On the front wall, draw a big headlight eye with a black dot. Add a smile and a pill bumper.

Step 4: Two fat tyres

Under each bump, draw a big tyre circle, a little smaller than the bump, so a ring of air shows.

Tip Each tyre is almost half as tall as the truck; both bottoms sit level.

Step 5: The big windscreen

Above the headlight, a finger inside the body line, draw a big windscreen that follows the corner round.

Step 6: The door window

A finger behind the windscreen, draw one chunky rounded rectangle the same height, for the door window.

Step 7: The stripe

Start under the door window. Draw a straight stripe forward, and stop at the front of the cab.

Step 8: Seam and tail light

From the back of the cab, draw a seam down, stop at the floor. Add a handle and tail light.

Step 9: Boom, hook and beacon

From the rail, draw a boom up, stopping at a round tip. Hang a hook and add a roof beacon.

Tip The boom leans like a ladder, ending higher than the cab roof.

Step 10: Hubcaps and road

Draw a hubcap circle with a dot in the middle of each tyre. Draw a straight road under both tyres.

Step 11: Yellow truck

Colour the truck yellow, going around the headlight, bumper, handle and windows.

Step 12: Sky windows

Colour the windscreen and the door window sky blue. Leave a little slanted shine white in the windscreen.

Step 13: Grey, orange and black

Colour the boom grey, beacon and tail light orange, tyres black around the hubcaps. Go over your lines.
