How to Draw a Toucan Flying

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a toucan flying in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round head

A little right of the middle and a little above it, draw a big round head, slightly wider than tall.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the bill.

  2. Step 2: Huge banana bill

Start on the top front of the head. Draw a long banana bill curving down, and stop at the chin.

Tip The bill is as long as two heads. Make it fat, with a soft point.

  3. Step 3: Bands on the bill

Draw 2 curved lines across the bill, one near the head, one near the tip. Join them with a smile.

  4. Step 4: Eye and white face

Draw a big eye with a black dot. Curve a line over and behind it, from bill to chin.

  5. Step 5: Plump body

Start behind the head. Draw a long egg body sloping down left, round the tummy. Stop under the head.

Tip The body is longer than the bill and fattest at the chest.

  6. Step 6: White bib

Start on the head, behind the chin. Curve a bib line down the chest and stop on the tummy line.

  7. Step 7: Long tail

From the body's back end draw a long tail straight back, with a round end. Add 2 feather lines.

  8. Step 8: Big open wing

Start on the back. Draw a wing up to a round tip, then down in 4 bumps to the back.

Tip The wing grows from the back, not the head. Round bumps, not teeth.

  9. Step 9: Wing feathers

From each dip between the bumps draw a short line into the wing: 3 feather lines.

  10. Step 10: Second wing

Between the head and the big wing draw a second wing, from the back up to a round tip.

Tip Only its front edge and tip peek out.

  11. Step 11: Yellow and orange bill

Colour the bill band next to the head yellow. Colour the middle band orange.

  12. Step 12: Grey wings and tail

Colour both wings and the long tail dark grey.

  13. Step 13: Black toucan

Colour the head, body and bill tip black, around the white face and bib. Leave the eye white.

    Tip Your toucan is flying!
