How to Draw a Tie

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a tie in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the knot.

Print

  1. Step 1: The knot

Near the top draw the knot: a flat top, 2 sides sloping in, and a soft round bottom.

  2. Step 2: The long tie

From the bottom of the knot draw 2 lines going down and slowly apart. Meet them in a point.

  3. Step 3: 2 big eyes

Halfway down the tie draw 2 big egg eyes close together. Colour a dot in each.

  4. Step 4: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a U smile from eye to eye. Add a tiny oval cheek beside each end.

  5. Step 5: Collar points

Beside each top corner of the knot, draw a collar point slanting down to a tip and back.

  6. Step 6: Back of the collar

Start at the top of one collar point, draw a gentle curve over the knot, and stop at the other.

  7. Step 7: Stripes

Draw slanted stripes across the tie from edge to edge: 2 near the knot and 3 near the point.

  8. Step 8: Sparkles

Draw 4 sparkle stars round the tie, 2 on each side.

  9. Step 9: Yellow stripes and sparkles

Colour every stripe yellow, and the sparkles too.

  10. Step 10: Pink cheeks, sky collar

Colour the cheeks pink and the whole collar sky blue.

  11. Step 11: Red tie

Colour the knot and the tie red around the stripes and cheeks, leaving the eyes white. Your tie is ready!
