How to Draw a Snapper
Draw a snapper in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: deep body, pointed snout.
Step 1: Deep body, pointed snout
Start on the right. Arch a back down to a pointed snout, then a deep tummy back to the start.
Tip A deep oval, twice as long as tall. Leave the right end open.
Step 2: Eye and mouth
High on the head, draw a big round eye. From the snout tip, draw a short smile turning up.
Step 3: Forked tail
From the back's end, draw a point up, scoop in to a dent, then a point down to the tummy.
Step 4: Long spiky back fin
Start on the back above the eye. Draw 7 sharp spikes, then a smooth lobe down to the tail.
Tip The spikes are the snapper's give-away: a sharp comb, then a soft fan.
Step 5: Gill
Behind the eye, start just below the back line. Draw a C bowing back and stop well above the tummy.
Step 6: Side fin
Behind the gill, draw a leaf fin, pointed at the front and round at the back, with 2 lines inside.
Step 7: Tummy fins
Under the side fin, draw a swept-back fin from the tummy, back up to it. Add one by the tail.
Step 8: Bubbles and belly line
Draw 3 bubbles in front of the snout. From the chin, draw a long belly line back to the tail.
Step 9: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line across the bottom. Stand 2 seaweed leaves on the left, 1 on the right.
Tip Each seaweed is a closed wiggly leaf standing on the sand.
Step 10: Pink tummy, sandy floor
Colour the tummy below the belly line pink and add a pink cheek dot. Colour under the sand line sandy.
Step 11: Blue bubbles, green seaweed
Colour the bubbles light blue and the seaweed green.
Step 12: Colour it red
Colour the body, fins and tail red around the pink tummy and cheek. Leave the eye white, and you're done!
