How to Draw a Dragonfish
Draw a dragonfish in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: eye and blunt face.
Step 1: Eye and blunt face
Draw a big round eye with a black dot. In front, start high, draw a C and stop low.
Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the long body.
Step 2: Long wavy body
Start at the top of the C. Draw a long wavy line right and stop. Do the same underneath.
Tip The body gets thinner and thinner, like an eel. Join the two ends with a tiny curve.
Step 3: Big toothy mouth
From the face C, draw a top lip and a bottom lip that meet. Zigzag long teeth along the top.
Tip Tall thin teeth, like little icicles.
Step 4: Glowing chin light
Start under the chin. Curve a stalk down and stop. Add a ball with 3 short lines below it.
Tip A dragonfish dangles its light under its chin.
Step 5: Forked tail
At the thin end of the body, draw a small tail with 2 points. Add 2 short lines inside.
Step 6: Top fin
Start on the back near the tail. Draw a low fin leaning back, stop on the back. Add 1 line.
Step 7: Bottom fin
Start on the belly under the top fin. Draw a matching fin down, stop on the belly. Add 1 line.
Step 8: Side fin
Behind the mouth draw a small leaf fin lying on its side, pointing at the tail. Add 2 lines inside.
Step 9: Glowing dots
Draw 4 small circles in a row along the body, from the side fin towards the tail.
Step 10: Bubbles
Draw 3 bubbles floating up above the head, the biggest one on top.
Step 11: Navy body, red mouth
Colour the body dark navy blue, around the eye, teeth, side fin and dots. Colour the mouth red.
Tip Leave the eye and the teeth white.
Step 12: Slate fins
Colour the tail and the 3 fins slate grey.
Step 13: Yellow lights, blue bubbles
Colour the chin ball and the 4 dots bright yellow so they glow. Colour the 3 bubbles light blue.
