How to Draw a Blue-Tongue Skink

Draw a blue-tongue skink in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and body.

Step 1: Head and body
Start low on the right. Draw a long sausage round a big snout, and stop on top above the start.
Tip Leave the right end open: the tail joins on there.
Step 2: Pointed tail
From the end of the back, draw a thick tail down to a point, then back to the tummy.
Tip Make it thick where it leaves the body and thin at the tip.
Step 3: The big eye
In the head, above the middle, draw one big round eye. Add a black pupil and a white shine.
Step 4: Grin and nostril
Start at the front of the snout. Draw a grin back under the eye, curling up. Dot a nostril.
Step 5: Tongue out
From the front of the grin, draw a round tongue sticking out, and back to the grin.
Tip Rub out the chin line inside the tongue.
Step 6: Front leg
Start on the tummy under the chest. Draw a short fat leg down to 3 round toes, and back up.
Tip Rub out the tummy line across the top of the leg.
Step 7: Back leg
Start on the tummy under the hips. Draw another short fat leg with 3 round toes, and back up.
Tip Rub out the tummy line across the top of this leg too.
Step 8: Far legs
Just behind each leg, draw the far leg peeking out: a thin strip down to its foot.
Step 9: Ground line
Draw a long flat line for the ground under all the feet, from below the tongue to past the tail.
Tip Lift your pencil at each foot.
Step 10: Wide bands
Draw 5 wide U bands hanging from the top line, from the neck to the tail.
Tip Each U starts and stops on the top line.
Step 11: Tan skin
Colour the head, body, legs and tail tan, around the bands and the tongue. Leave the eye white.
Step 12: Blue and brown
Colour the tongue blue and the 5 bands brown. Your blue-tongue skink is done!
