12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw shortbread in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.

Print

  1. Step 1: A plate

In the middle, draw a big oval plate, leaving a little space at each side.

Tip The plate comes first; the food sits in the middle.

  2. Step 2: The rim

Inside the plate, draw a smaller oval the same shape for the rim, a finger's width in from the edge.

  3. Step 3: The front finger

Low in the rim, draw a shortbread finger: a long rectangle with rounded corners, as long as your finger.

  4. Step 4: A finger behind left

On the left, draw a second finger the same size, tilted with its right end up and tucked behind.

  5. Step 5: A finger behind right

On the right, draw a third finger the same size, its left end up and tucked behind both.

  6. Step 6: Fork holes

On the front finger, draw 2 rows of 4 tiny dots for the fork holes.

  7. Step 7: More fork holes

Draw 2 rows of 3 tiny dots on the left and right fingers too, tilted with each finger.

  8. Step 8: Crumbs

Draw 2 little lumpy crumbs on the plate, one each side of the front finger.

  9. Step 9: The table

Draw a long table line under the plate, just touching its bottom.

  10. Step 10: Buttery fingers

Go over your lines, then colour all 3 fingers sand, a pale buttery yellow.

  11. Step 11: Sky plate

Colour the plate sky blue around the shortbread and the crumbs.

  12. Step 12: Golden crumbs

Colour the 2 crumbs tan, and your shortbread is done!
