How to Draw a Samurai

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a samurai in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave room above for the helmet and most of the page below for the body.

  2. Step 2: The face

Draw 2 big eyes with black dots, a small curved nose and a wide smile.

  3. Step 3: Helmet

Draw a round helmet over the head, its curved brim above the eyes. Add a slanting flap down each side.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the helmet.

  4. Step 4: Golden horns

On the front of the helmet draw a small circle. From it draw 2 curved horns, up and out.

Tip The 2 horns match, like a wide V.

  5. Step 5: Chest armour

Under the chin draw a short collar, then wide shoulders and a chest plate, straight across the bottom.

  6. Step 6: Shoulder plates

Over each shoulder draw a big plate with round corners. Draw a line across the middle of each.

  7. Step 7: Arms and hands

Start under each plate. Draw 2 sleeve lines down and stop at the wrist. Add a mitten hand.

Tip The sleeves get a little thinner towards the hands.

  8. Step 8: Belt

Draw 1 line across the chest plate. Lower down draw 2 lines close together for a belt.

  9. Step 9: Sword

Just above the belt draw a small oval. Add a handle going up and a sheath down past the hand.

Tip The sheath hides behind the belt and the hand.

  10. Step 10: Wide trousers

From the bottom corners of the armour draw wide trousers down to 2 flat hems. Add an upside-down V between.

  11. Step 11: Sandals and ground

Under each hem draw a flat sandal, toe pointing out. Draw a long ground line under them.

  12. Step 12: Peach and yellow

Colour the face and hands peach. Leave the eyes white. Colour the horns, belt, sword oval and sandals yellow.

  13. Step 13: Red and blue

Colour the armour, shoulder plates and helmet flaps red, around the belt. Colour the sleeves and trousers blue.

  14. Step 14: Grey and black

Colour the helmet grey. Colour the sword handle and sheath black. Your samurai is done!
