How to Draw a Sailor
Draw a sailor in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper, draw an egg for the head. The chin end is a little narrower.
Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.
Step 2: The face
Draw 2 eyes with a shine, a U nose and a smile. Start at each side, draw an ear, stop.
Step 3: Sailor cap
Draw a cap over the top of the head with a curve across the forehead. Add a band.
Step 4: Striped shirt
Draw 2 neck lines. Start at the left one, draw a shirt, stop at the right. Add 3 stripes.
Step 5: Collar and neckerchief
Draw a square collar flap from each neck line down to a V. Add trim lines, a knot, a tail.
Tip Draw each trim line near the flap's edge, from the shoulder to the knot.
Step 6: Arms
Start under each sleeve. Draw 2 lines down to the wrist, getting thinner and bending softly at the elbow.
Step 7: Mitten hands
Draw a mitten at the end of each arm. Add a little thumb pointing in.
Step 8: Wide trousers
Start at the bottom left of the shirt. Draw 2 wide trouser legs and stop at the bottom right.
Step 9: Shoes and ground
Under each leg draw a shoe with the toe pointing out. Draw a long ground line under the shoes.
Step 10: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour 2 pink cheeks. Colour the face, ears, neck, arms and hands peach around them. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Blue stripes and collar
Colour the top and bottom shirt bands blue. Colour the collar blue inside the trim line.
Step 12: Red neckerchief, navy trousers
Colour the knot and its tail red, the trousers navy, the shoes black. Leave the cap and shirt white.
