How to Draw a Rope
Draw a rope in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle.
Step 1: The middle
A little above the middle of your paper, draw a circle about a quarter as wide as the page.
Tip You are looking down on a rope coiled flat on the floor.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle circle draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a big black dot in each, leaving a white shine.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile, with a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 4: The spiral
From the circle's top, curl a line left round it, out 2 and a half times, ending at the bottom.
Tip Keep the turns a finger apart so the rope comes out thick.
Step 5: The loose end
From the spiral's end, draw a thick rope end out to the bottom right, then back to the coil.
Step 6: Inside twists
Across the inside turn of rope, draw short curved slanted lines from line to line, all the way along.
Step 7: Outside twists
Do the same across the outside turn and along the loose end, evenly spaced.
Step 8: Whipping and fray
Near the tip draw 2 short lines across the rope, and 3 tiny frayed lines fanning from the end.
Step 9: Sparkles
Draw 3 little four-point sparkle stars around the coil, not touching it.
Step 10: Yellow and pink
Colour the sparkles yellow and the cheeks pink.
Step 11: Sand middle
Colour the middle circle sand, around the pink cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Tan rope
Go over your lines, then colour the rope and its loose end tan, around the middle. Your rope is done!
