How to Draw a Plant Cell
Draw a plant cell in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: cell wall.
Step 1: Cell wall
Draw a big tall box that nearly fills your paper. Make all 4 corners round.
Tip Plant cells are boxy, like bricks. That is what makes a plant stiff.
Step 2: Thick wall
Draw the same box again just inside the first, a finger apart. This thick band is the cell wall.
Step 3: Cell membrane
Draw one more box just inside, very close to the last. This thin band is the cell membrane.
Tip Keep the lines the same distance apart all the way round.
Step 4: Big vacuole
In the middle, a bit up and to the right, draw a big soft blob. Leave room all round it.
Tip The vacuole is the cell's water tank.
Step 5: Nucleus
In the bottom left corner, under the vacuole, draw a circle for the nucleus.
Tip The nucleus is the boss of the cell.
Step 6: Nucleus dot
Inside the nucleus draw a small circle, a little off the middle.
Step 7: Two chloroplasts
On the left of the vacuole draw 2 small ovals, like beans, tipped different ways.
Tip Chloroplasts are green. They catch sunlight to make the plant's food.
Step 8: Three more
Under the vacuole draw 3 more small ovals. Keep them off the nucleus and each other.
Step 9: Bean lines
Draw a short line along the middle of each oval. Stop before the ends.
Step 10: Yellow inside
Go over your lines. Colour the inside of the cell yellow, around the vacuole, nucleus and ovals.
Step 11: Blue and pink
Colour the vacuole light blue. Colour the nucleus pink, leaving its small circle white.
Step 12: Light green membrane
Colour the thin band of the cell membrane light green.
Step 13: Dark green wall
Colour the thick cell wall dark green. Colour the 5 ovals dark green too.
Tip Colour slowly round the corners so the bands stay neat.
Step 14: Purple dot
Colour the small circle in the nucleus purple, and your plant cell is done!
