How to Draw a Plaid Pattern
Draw a plaid pattern in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the square.
Step 1: The square
In the middle of your paper draw a big square with softly rounded corners, nearly as big as your page.
Step 2: The first tall band
A little in from the left draw 2 close lines, each from the top edge down to the bottom edge.
Tip Plaid is bands going down crossed by bands going across.
Step 3: The second tall band
Draw another tall band the same width near the right side, from the top edge down to the bottom edge.
Step 4: The first wide band
A little down from the top draw 2 close lines, each from the left edge across to the right edge.
Step 5: The second wide band
Draw another wide band a little up from the bottom, from the left edge across to the right edge.
Step 6: Sparkles
Draw 4 small sparkle stars just off the corners of the square.
Step 7: Cream squares
Go over your lines, then colour the 9 squares between the bands cream.
Step 8: Yellow sparkles
Colour the 4 sparkles yellow.
Step 9: Red tall bands
Colour the 2 tall bands red, but leave the little crossing squares for later.
Step 10: Blue wide bands
Colour the 2 wide bands blue, and again leave the little crossing squares for later.
Step 11: Navy crossings
Colour the 4 little squares where the bands cross navy. Your plaid pattern is done!
