How to Draw a Peacock Butterfly
Draw a peacock butterfly in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.
Step 1: Egg head
A bit above the middle, draw a big soft egg head, wider than tall. Leave room each side for wings.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Below the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour big black dots, leaving white shines.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Start under the left eye. Draw a wide U smile to under the right eye. Add a cheek each side.
Step 4: The body
Start under the left of the head. Draw a chest bump, a plump teardrop tummy, back up to the right.
Step 5: Three stripes
Across the tummy, draw 3 little smile curves, from the left edge of the body to the right edge.
Step 6: Top wings
Start on the left chest. Draw a wing up past the head, down 3 wavy bays, back to the tummy.
Tip The 3 bays curve INTO the wing, like bites.
Step 7: Bottom wings
Start halfway along each top wing's bottom. Swoop down into a rounder wing with 3 bays, back to the tummy.
Step 8: Curly feelers
Start on top of the head. Draw a thin lazy S up and out, ending in a ball. Same right.
Step 9: Four big eyespots
Near each top wing's outer corner, draw a big oval with a smaller oval inside. Same on each bottom wing.
Tip Like the eyes on a peacock's tail: they scare birds away.
Step 10: Yellow and blue eyespots
Colour each eyespot's outer ring yellow and the inside oval blue.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, red wings
Colour the cheeks pink. Colour all 4 wings red, around the eyespots.
Step 12: Dark grey body
Go over your lines. Colour the head, body and feeler balls dark grey around the cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
