How to Draw an Owl in a Tree
Draw an owl in a tree in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: owl head.
Step 1: Owl head
A little above the middle of your paper, draw a small egg head lying on its side, with round cheeks.
Tip Leave lots of space all round: a tree goes round it.
Step 2: Two ear tufts
Start on each top corner. Draw a fat feather up to a soft point, then back to the head.
Step 3: Two huge eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 huge circle eyes a finger apart. Add big black dots and shines.
Step 4: The beak
Under the gap between the eyes, draw a fat teardrop beak hanging point down to the chin.
Step 5: Heart face
Start at the beak's top left corner. Draw a heart round both eyes, stopping at the beak's top right corner.
Step 6: The hollow
Draw a big tall egg all round the owl for the tree hole. Rub out bits that cross the head.
Tip Leave a little dark space showing all round the owl.
Step 7: Body, wings and feathers
From under each cheek, curve a C down to the hole's edge. Add leaf wings and 5 u-curve tummy feathers.
Step 8: Feet on the sill
On the bottom edge of the hole, under each eye, draw a little foot with 3 round toes hanging over.
Step 9: The trunk
Draw a flat oval above the owl. From each end, draw down to a root foot. Add the ground.
Step 10: Branch, knot and bark
From high on the right, draw a branch with an oval end. Add a low knot and 4 bark dashes.
Tip Rub out the trunk line where the branch joins.
Step 11: Yellow eyes and feet
Colour the eyes, beak and feet yellow, around the black dots. Leave the shines white.
Step 12: Tan and light brown
Colour the face, tummy and both flat ovals tan. Colour the wings, trunk and branch light brown, around the holes.
Step 13: Brown head, dark holes
Colour the head and tufts brown around the face. Colour the hollow around the owl, and the knot, dark grey.
