How to Draw an Osprey
Draw an osprey in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
On the left, start at the front and curve up over a big round head. Stop low at the back.
Step 2: Hooked beak
Start at the front end of the head line. Draw a short hooked beak and stop under it. Close it.
Tip Short and fat, with the tip hooked down.
Step 3: Big shiny eye
Draw a big round eye with a black dot and a shine. Add a small smile behind the beak.
Step 4: Long body
Start at the back of the head. Draw a long back, curve under the tummy and stop at the beak.
Step 5: Big raised wing
Start behind the head. Draw a long wing up to a round tip, then 5 feather bumps down.
Tip An osprey's wings are long and narrow.
Step 6: Far wing
Start behind the head. Draw a thin strip up beside the big wing. Stop on the big wing.
Step 7: Fan tail
From the round end of the body, draw a fan tail straight out behind, wider at its end.
Step 8: Dark eye stripe
Just behind the eye, draw a thin band back to the edge of the head, wider at the end.
Tip This dark stripe through the eye is how you spot an osprey.
Step 9: Legs and feet
Under the tummy draw 2 short legs hanging down. End each in a round foot with 2 toe lines.
Tip Each leg starts inside the tummy and gets narrow at the ankle.
Step 10: A fish
Behind the feet draw a long fish pointing left, with a V tail, a dot eye and a gill line.
Tip The feet grip the fish, so its back hides behind them.
Step 11: Yellow eye, grey feet
Colour the eye yellow, and both legs and feet grey. Leave the rest of the bird white for now.
Step 12: Teal fish
Colour the fish and its tail teal, around the grey feet. Leave its eye black.
Step 13: Brown wings and tail
Colour both wings, the eye stripe and the fan tail brown.
Step 14: Dark grey beak
Colour the hooked beak dark grey. Go over your lines and your osprey is done.
