How to Draw an Octagonal Prism
Draw an octagonal prism in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top half.
Step 1: Top half
Draw a flat top line. From each end, slant down and out, then go straight down.
Tip An octagon has 8 sides, all the same length.
Step 2: Bottom half
From the bottom of each side, slant down and in. Join the 2 ends with a flat bottom line.
Tip The bottom line sits right under the top line.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the octagon draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.
Tip Leave a small gap between the eyes.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Leave a gap under the eyes, then draw a wide U smile. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: The top side
From each end of the top line, slant a short line up and right. Join them with a flat line.
Tip The back line is the same length as the top line in front of it.
Step 6: The upper right side
Start at the right back corner. Copy the octagon's slant down and out, then join back to its corner.
Tip Keep every short slanted line the same length and the same slope.
Step 7: The right side
From there, draw straight down, as long as the octagon's right side. Then join back to its corner.
Step 8: The lower right side
From there, copy the next slant down and in. Then join back to the bottom corner.
Step 9: Sparkles
Draw 2 sparkle stars on each side of the prism, one high and one low.
Step 10: The floor
From each bottom corner, draw a floor line straight out to the side. Stop near the paper's edge.
Tip The floor carries straight on from the bottom line.
Step 11: Yellow sparkles and top
Go over your lines. Colour the 4 sparkles and the top side of the prism yellow.
Step 12: Pink cheeks, light side
Colour the 2 cheeks pink. Colour the upper right side light blue.
Step 13: Teal front
Colour the octagon front teal, around the face. Leave the eyes white.
Step 14: Blue and dark sides
Colour the right side blue and the lower right side dark blue. Your octagonal prism is done!
Tip Light on top and dark underneath makes the prism look solid.
