How to Draw a Narrowboat
Draw a narrowboat in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long hull.
Step 1: Long hull
Draw a very long low boat, nearly as wide as the page. Add a rim line just under the top.
Tip A narrowboat is long and thin, not very tall.
Step 2: The cabin
On the deck draw a long low box for the cabin, leaving a little deck at each end.
Step 3: The roof
On top of the cabin draw a gently curved roof, poking out a tiny bit past each end.
Step 4: Four windows
Along the cabin draw 4 little square windows in a row, all the same size.
Step 5: Door and chimney
Draw a door with a dot knob near the front. Add a chimney at the back with 2 smoke puffs.
Step 6: The tiller
At the back of the boat draw a stick leaning up and back, with a little ball on its end.
Tip The tiller is the steering stick.
Step 7: Painted rose
Draw a flower by the door: a dot with 5 round petals. Add a stripe along the whole hull.
Step 8: Waves and a duck
From the left edge draw 2 rows of wave bumps across to the right edge. Add a duck in front.
Step 9: The sun
Near the top left corner, draw a circle for the sun with 8 short rays.
Step 10: Yellow windows and door
Colour the windows, door, duck and sun yellow. Give the duck an orange beak.
Step 11: Green boat, red roof
Colour the roof and flower red. Colour the hull and cabin green, around the windows, door and flower.
Step 12: Blue canal
Colour the water blue around the duck, and the tiller and chimney grey. Your narrowboat is ready to glide along!

Your finished drawing
