How to Draw a Mouse

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top draw a big upside-down teardrop head, round on top and narrowing to a soft point below.

Tip The point is the snout tip. Leave room at the sides for big ears.

  2. Step 2: Two huge ears

High on each side of the head draw a huge round ear swinging out, with a smaller oval inside.

Tip Each ear is half as wide as the head, and sits on the side.

  3. Step 3: Nose and whiskers

At the snout point draw a small teardrop nose. From it draw 3 whiskers fanning back across each cheek.

Tip The whiskers sweep back toward the ears and stop inside the face.

  4. Step 4: Eyes and smile

Above the whiskers draw 2 big eyes with black dots. From the nose, a short line down to a smile.

Tip The black dot fills over half of each eye, so the mouse looks soft.

  5. Step 5: Pear body and tummy

From under each cheek draw a lazy C down for the body, to meet at the bottom. Add a tummy.

Tip The body is a short pear, narrower than the head.

  6. Step 6: Front legs and paws

From each side of the body draw a leg getting thinner, then a round mitten paw with 2 toe lines.

Tip Wide at the shoulder, thin at the wrist, with a fat mitten.

  7. Step 7: Back feet

Beside each front paw draw a small mitten back foot lying on the ground, pointing out, with 2 toe lines.

  8. Step 8: Long thin tail

From the right side of the body draw a long tail along the ground, curling up to a needle point.

Tip Thumb-thick at the body, string-thin at the curl.

  9. Step 9: The ground

Draw one flat ground line under the paws, feet and tail, a little past the tail on the right.

Tip Everything sits right on this line, so nothing floats.

  10. Step 10: Cheese wedge

On the left draw a cheese wedge from the ground up to a point and back down. Add 2 holes.

Tip About half as tall as the body. Keep the holes away from the edges.

  11. Step 11: Yellow cheese, cream tummy

Colour the cheese yellow, leaving the holes white. Colour the tummy cream.

  12. Step 12: Pink ears and tail

Colour the inside of the ears, the nose and the thin tail pink.

  13. Step 13: Grey fur

Colour the head, ears, body, legs and feet grey, around the pink and cream. Leave the eyes white.
