How to Draw a Merganser
Draw a merganser in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top left, draw a round head, a little wider than tall. Leave room below for the body.
Step 2: Long thin bill
Start on the head's front. Draw a long thin bill out left to a round tip, then back.
Tip Thin like a pencil, not flat like a duck's. Add a mouth line from the tip to the head.
Step 3: One big eye
Behind the bill, draw a big round eye with a big black dot and a white shine.
Step 4: Spiky head feathers
On the back of the head, draw 3 feather tufts sweeping back, each ending in a soft point.
Tip Start on the top of the head and stop on its back.
Step 5: Short neck
From the chin and the back of the head, draw 2 short neck lines down. Stop half a head down.
Step 6: Chest, back and tail
From the neck, draw a round chest down, and a long low back round a small tail. Both stop level.
Tip The tail is small and round, and the line under it slants back in.
Step 7: Chest line and wing
From where the neck meets the back, draw a curve down to the bottom. Add a teardrop wing beside it.
Tip Give the wing's bottom edge 3 feather bumps, starting at its point.
Step 8: Wavy water
From the left edge, draw a soft wavy water line across to the right edge, under the bird. Add ripples.
Step 9: Red bill, green head
Colour the bill red. Colour the head and its feather tufts green. Leave the eye white.
Step 10: Grey body
Colour the body grey, around the wing. Leave the neck and chest white.
Step 11: Dark wing, blue water
Colour the wing dark grey. Colour the water blue under the wavy line. Your merganser is done!
