How to Draw a Match
Draw a match in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the stick.
Step 1: The stick
In the lower middle of your paper draw a tall thin box for the wooden stick.
Tip Leave lots of room above it for the flame.
Step 2: The match head
On top of the stick draw an egg shape, wider than the stick.
Tip The head is the part that catches fire when you strike it.
Step 3: The flame
Start on the left of the head. Draw a tall pointed flame up and over, and stop on the right.
Tip Make the flame fat low down and pointed at the top, like a drop of water.
Step 4: Flame's heart
Inside the flame draw a small drop shape, point up, just above the match head.
Tip Keep a gap all round it, so the heart floats in the middle of the flame.
Step 5: Wood lines
Draw 2 short lines down the stick, one high and one low. Start and stop inside the stick.
Step 6: Warm glow
Draw 2 short rays on each side of the flame's top, pointing away, with a gap from the flame.
Step 7: The table
Draw a table line under the stick, from far left to far right.
Tip The match stands up straight, like a candle.
Step 8: Yellow flame
Go over your lines. Colour the flame yellow, around its heart and the match head.
Step 9: Orange heart
Colour the heart of the flame orange.
Step 10: Tan stick
Colour the stick a light tan, like wood.
Step 11: Red head
Colour the match head red. Your match is lit!
